Please join us for a program on The Boards’ Exposure: Understanding and Managing Personal Risk on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. The experienced panel will discuss what Board members should know beyond the amount of D&O insurance that is appropriate including:

  • Board transactions that result in the most lawsuits
  • What circumstances can result in personal liability and how to avoid them
  • Key provisions in D&O insurance
  • How insurers look at different risks and how to best position your company

This session is ideally suited for current board members who desire a more in-depth understanding of risk related to board service and how to mitigate it.

Patricia M. Bedient

Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

Patty Bedient joined Weyerhaeuser in 2003 and was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer in 2007. Prior to joining the company, she was with Arthur Andersen LLP where she was the partner in charge of the firm’s forest products practice from 1999 to 2002. She serves on the Boards of Alaska Air Group, Overlake Medical Center, and Oregon State University. She is a CPA and member of the American Institute of CPAs.

Elizabeth J. Huebner (Liz)

Liz Huebner is a member of the Blucora (NASDAQ:BCOR) Board of Directors where she chairs the Audit Committee, is a member of the Compensation Committee and a past member and chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the PNW Chapter of NACD. Liz has held numerous executive finance positions before retiring in 2006 and has expertise in accounting, acquisitions, investor relations, treasury management and financial analysis. She was most recently the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Getty Images, Inc. Liz joined Getty Images in 2000 and was responsible for all financial aspects of this NYSE company (now privately-held). Prior to Getty Images, Liz was the Chief Financial Officer for Primus Knowledge Solutions, Inc. where she played a key role in the 1999 initial public offering. Liz was also the Chief Financial Officer for Fluke Corporation, a NYSE company, from 1996 to 1998.

Nathan Reyes is a Senior Vice President and the Practice Leader for Marsh FINPRO’s Global Risk Management Client Advisory Practice in Chicago. His current responsibilities include client education, renewal preparation, insurance program strategies, senior carrier negotiations as well as strategic new business planning and development for the Chicago FINPRO practice. Nathan has over 15 years of industry expertise in the executive liability lines of coverage.

Greg Watts is a partner in the Seattle office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he focuses on securities and complex commercial litigation, primarily defending companies and their directors and officers in securities class actions, shareholder derivative actions, contested mergers and acquisitions, and SEC investigations and enforcement proceedings. Greg has represented companies and their directors and officers in dozens of securities class action and shareholder derivative lawsuits around the country, including on behalf of Pacific Northwest companies Atossa Genetics, Boeing, CTI Biopharma, Fisher Communications, Flow International, Intermec, Isilon Systems, IsoRay, Nighthawk Radiology, Outerwall, Starbucks, and Sterling Financial Corporation. Greg is a frequent speaker on D&O liability issues and is Co-Chair of the Northwest Securities Institute.
