Boise I Family Business Board
Non-Member Price: $40
Over 90 percent of American businesses are family owned or controlled, including 40 percent of the Fortune 500, including companies like Ford Motor and Walmart. The board of directors of a family owned or controlled company has a unique set of challenges. Ideally, a family shares common goals and values, but frequently the family itself splinters, especially if money is involved. The failure of family relationships as the company moves from generation to generation can cause the failure of the company. Plus, the business acumen of the first generation frequently leads to the caution of the second generation and the frivolity and eventual poverty of the third generation. One effective antidote is a strong, viable and independent board of directors. The panel discussion will cover practices used by family owned or controlled businesses to preserve and enhance the special advantages of a family business and mitigate its destructive tendencies.
